~*~*~Food for thought and all that's about~*~*~

As i'm sitting here on this Tuesday afternoon reflecting on the business journey I have started for myself, I am questioning my decisions. Have I made the right choice? Have I put enough thought into it all? Am I going to be successful at this? I have wanted to open a book store of my own for a couple of years now, but the fear of failing and putting that huge financial burden on myself and my husband just isn't something I feel I can do in this economy. That is where The Indie Box was born. So as I am seeing different avenues of what has now become the new "thing" in online book sales popping up, I am wondering what this is going to do for The Indie Box. Is there only one department store to shop at? One grocery store? One author that writes? No, of course not. There is always going to be options. But, everyone should support each other. It's not who finishes first out there. It's who walks across the finish line with you.

To tackle my questions and self doubt one at a time:

Have I made the right choice?
I fully believe I did. I would have sat back and wondered the inevitable "what if" had I not taken the leap to start this journey. I believe we can all sit back and look at different aspects in our lives and honestly say we have "what if" moments. I am to the age in my life, I don't want those moments anymore. I want to be able to say, "I did it." So, to answer my own question, Yes! I fully believe I made the right choice for ME.

Have I put enough thought into it all?
I think that if any of us sit and think on something for too long, we can talk ourselves right out of doing what we want to do or are fully capable of doing. Yes, I did sit down and put it all on paper. I spoke to many different authors about pricing. I priced shipping costs and supplies. And spoke to my husband about it as well. So, yes I did put quite a bit of extensive thought into it, but not enough to talk myself out of it.

Am I going to be successful at this?
Does the author ask themselves this when they sit down and write their first book? Does the publicist ask themselves that when they promote themselves to authors? Do cover models ask this when doing photo shoots? I believe we will all be successful at what we set our minds and hearts to. I have been a firm believer since I was introduced to the world of "Indie authors" that there should be more outlets to help get their amazingly talented books out to the world more. So, I have the heart and the mindset to make this business work and flourish because it is not only myself that is benefiting from this, but the authors books that I am selling as well. To know the many different hands that these books are getting into all because of a vision I had to start this business, puts a smile on my face. I don't expect to sell hundreds and hundreds of boxes right away. Although, that would be awesome in itself. I know that this is a work in progress. You have to work hard at something to appreciate where you get. Just like anyone who is out to sell something. To appreciate where you get you have to always remember where you started from.
The Indie Box will always be changing. Coming up with different ideas along the way to keep the interest. It will not be a mundane item that gets tossed by the wayside. So again, to answer my question,, YES, I will be successful at this because I have the heart it takes to push through and to make this business what it should be. And I will make it, ONE BOX AT A TIME.
